Growing Intentions: A Seed Starting and Journaling Workshop
Tuesday April 21sth | 6 PM at The Umbrella ☂️
Join Emily of Verdant Place for a special Earth Day workshop at The Umbrella Vintage located within the Salt Shed. Grow something beautiful from recycled materials and reflection. We will create handmade journals from scrap materials to make notes about our future gardens and our intentions for the season.
Each guest will have access to seed starting supplies and will choose four plant varieties to start and take home. The focus will be on easy, early “cut-and-come-again” summer blooms with natural dye capabilities such as zinnias, cosmos, marigolds, calendula, and herbs. Each person will pick 4 varieties and plant in quadrants.
Enjoy snacks and drinks provided by The Umbrella, plus 20% off clothing while you shop.
Itinerary:
- Arrive, shop, and mingle
- Snacks + introductions -> workshop instructions
- Journaling begins
- Seed starting + “field notes” -> seed care, seedling transplant, and garden spacing
-
Learn how to identify your seedlings and how big each plant will grow. Begin thinking about where you'll plant them...could be your yard, patio, parkway, public space (know risks), neighbors house, community space- school, library, church, restaurant patio (Just ask. Most people would love if someone helped with the garden/beautify spaces!)
- Optional shares + Q&A
- Cleanup (quick and easy)
What you'll take home:
- A set of seed-started plants (4 varieties) ready to grow
- A handmade journal crafted from recycled materials
- Your own “field notes”—including planting plans, care tips, and garden ideas
- Practical knowledge on seed care, transplanting, spacing, and plant identification
What you'll walk away with:
- A clear vision of where and how to plant, whether at home or in a shared/community space
- Creative inspiration for growing and beautifying their surroundings
- A sense of connection to the season and intention-setting for spring and summer
- A relaxed, feel-good experience (plus a little shopping perk with 20% off at The Umbrella)
