A Botanical Love Letter

Join us for an intimate New Moon to slow down, create with intention, and reconnect with nature and yourself.

Thursday, September 10th 6pm-9pm 

Learn the art of botanical dyeing as flowers and plants create unexpected color and pattern on silk. More importantly, spend an evening slowing down, getting creative, and choosing yourself.

The Experience 

Arrive + Prepare
Your silk slip dress will be waiting for you, tagged with your name. We’ll begin by soaking the silk in warm water while I introduce myself, share a little about my practice, and walk you through the process.

Choose + Bundle
I’ll introduce the flowers and botanicals we’ll be working with, including their colors and natural surprises. You’ll then choose your materials, arrange them on your silk, and fold and bundle your piece for dyeing.

The Love Letter Ritual
Before we begin, you’ll write a short note to yourself about how you want to feel when you wear your garment; sensual, playful, powerful, soft, alive...

Bring a favorite perfume to mist your note and we’ll tie it with ribbon as we play light music to move our bodies while we smudge the fabric and flowers. A small ritual for choosing something for yourself. I do this all the time in my personal practice, little rituals, little spells, small ways of creating a relationship with myself rooted in respect and love. This part will be a small ritual for choosing something for yourself.

Dye + Gather
We’ll begin dyeing, then let the bundles cook for about 50 minutes. While they cook, I’ll share the art and science of natural dyeing, with time for conversation, questions, food, drinks, and music.

The Reveal
The best part: I’ll demonstrate how to carefully unbundle the silk, then everyone will unwrap their own piece and discover what the flowers and color have left behind!!  No two garments will be the same, everyone will have made something that could only belong to them.

Over-Dye + Transform
For anyone who wants to take the color a little further, we’ll also have the opportunity to over-dye the slips together. This is where people can begin responding to what they’ve made, adding another layer of color and watching the piece change again.

The Final Rinse
We’ll finish by rinsing and washing the garments together, moving through the final stages of the process until each person has their own transformed garment.

And finally, the little scented note for yourself can be tucked inside the garment.

The Takeaway

The finished garment becomes a reminder of something you made, something that is uniquely yours, and something connected to how you wanted to feel when you made it.

It’s really about the act of choosing yourself even if its just for an evening.

The natural dyeing, flowers, color, and finished silk piece are the beautiful art of the experience but underneath all of that is an invitation to slow down and to step away from the pace of everyday life, use your hands, engage your senses, and spend a few intentional hours doing something purely for yourself.

Meet your Teacher:

Selinger Gonzo 

Selinger is Chicago-based natural dyer and multidisciplinary artist originally from Mexico. Inspired by a desire to live in harmony with the natural world, she discovered natural dyeing through a serendipitous cooking accident; a moment when curiosity, creativity, and a deeper connection to nature came together. Through her workshops, she invites others into the personal rituals and practices that have become part of her own relationship with nature, creativity, and self.

• No experience necessary this workshop is designed for beginners and seasoned creatives alike.
• Instruction is available in both Spanish and English
• All florals and supplies are included
